Educate Together Patronage for new Balbriggan Secondary School
27 November 2013
Brendan Ryan, Labour Party TD for Dublin Fingal, has welcomed the announcement by the Minister for Education that the new Secondary School planned for Balbriggan will be run as an Educate Together school.
Ryan “I am very pleased that the new post primary school for Balbriggan will be run under the patronage of Educate Together. I have supported this campaign and have spoken to the Minister on many occasions in support of ensuring this school was an Educate Together. There is a real demand for such a school in Balbriggan and I am sure many parents will be delighted at this news. This decision will improve the diversity of choice available to parents in Balbriggan and this is most welcome.”
- Prospective patrons were asked to provide evidence of parental demand when making applications for patronage of the new schools. In addition, the criteria used in deciding on patronage included how the proposed schools under the respective patrons would provide for extending or strengthening diversity of school ethos in each area, having regard to the views of parents.
- Department officials will shortly contact each of the patron bodies in regard to the logistics of the establishment of these new schools.
- The school in Balbriggan will cater for 700 pupils and will open in either 2015 or 2016
