Ryan meets management of MSD following announcement of winddown

6 December 2013

Brendan Ryan, Labour Party TD for Dublin Fingal, met with Management in MSD Swords today following the announcement last week that the plant would shut in 2017 with the ultimate loss of 570 jobs.

Ryan “I met with Management today to discuss the plan for the workers and the plant. The plant in Swords is highly flexible and has received a lot of investment in recent years. It is a highly desirable plant for investment. I believe MSD, in conjunction with the IDA, are genuinely seeking a quality and credible buyer for the plant. The workforce in MSD is highly skilled and professional and it is hoped that the combination of a state of the art plant and highly skilled workforce will prove an attractive package for potential buyers.”

Ryan “I am meeting the Minister for Jobs Enterprise and Innovation and officials from the IDA on Tuesday to further discuss the MSD issue and the need to find a buyer for the plant to protect as many jobs as possible”
