Dublin North jobs figures

6 March 2014

Brendan Ryan, Labour Party TD for Dublin Fingal, has welcomed the further decrease in the national figures for unemployment. At the end of February there were 398,069 people signing on the Live Register, dipping below the psychological barrier of 400,000 for the first time since May 2009. Figures in North County Dublin, which are divided between two regions for the purposes of Live Register figures, the Swords region and the Balbriggan region also show an annual decrease.

Ryan “Overall, the change in the last year in the two regions is positive, with the Balbriggan figure down 7.2% and the Swords figure down 12% on the figures from February last year. The Balbriggan figure is 4,596, down from 4,953 last February, whilst the Swords figure is 4,130 down from 4,691 from this time last year. The figures are still high and both highlight the urgent need to deliver INTREO services in both towns to service the entire North Dublin region.”

Ryan “In my latest representations to the Department of Social Protection I have been informed that there is a target to have an INTREO service in both towns before the year is out. This is vital and I will be pushing the minister to meet this target.”
