12 new social housing units in Swords

11 March 2014

Brendan Ryan, Labour Party TD for Dublin Fingal, has welcomed the news from Minister Jan O’Sullivan that €68 million is being allocated for a two year local authority home building initiative, including €2,000,000 being apportioned to build new social housing units in Swords. The investment represents the first return to new mainstream local authority house building since the economic crash of 2008.

This funding will result in 12 new social housing units in Swords, planned for the Glasmore/St Cronan’s area.

Ryan “With the waiting lists for social housing as long as they are, the building of new social housing is a good start to solving the problem. This announcement, along with the announced funding to tackle void housing stock, highlights Labour’s role in Government. Housing has always been a top priority for us. The previous Government stopped building houses and left us with no money to begin building houses when we first came into Government. Now, as the economy begins to recover, we can see this core value of the Labour Party begin to be delivered. I will be pushing in the Dáil for more funding for new housing in Fingal”
