Holy Family SNS MATHletes January Cup Winners

17 February 2015

I was delighted to present the January Cup trophy to the Holy Family Senior National School in Swords last Friday. Holy Family is new to the Challenge this year, but is a feeder school of Fingal Community College, the 2014 National Champion for Secondary Level. It was students at Fingal Community College which were instrumental in bringing MATHletes to Holy Family. In particular one TY student, Hannah Leonard, who set up the entire school with their Khan Academy accounts, and runs clubs for the primary students.

There are 16 teachers from the school whose classes are working on Khan Academy & MATHletes (which is most teachers in one single school in all of MATHletes 2015) and 431 students competing. The highest individual scoring students were 3 girls:
• 4th class: Layla Ciren (15th place All-Ireland)
• 5th Class: Sinead ilovan (18th place All-Ireland)
• 6th class: Siobhan VanWyk (11th place All-Ireland)

A big congratulations to Breda Morrissey, the MATHletes Content and Outreach specialist, Kelly Kirkpatrick and all the team of teachers who supported their pupils in this great competition.
