Public finances ensure we can now deliver Metro
29 September 2015
Brendan Ryan, Labour Party TD for Dublin Fingal, has welcomed the announcement from Government today that Metro North will now proceed with construction beginning in 2021 to be finished by 2026.
Ryan “I remember in the last General Election the Labour Party were criticised for not committing prior to the election to deliver Metro North. We stated that we needed to do a cost benefit analysis before being able to commit to any large infrastructure projects. It was a prudent and responsible approach and one which was contrary to the populist promise all, deliver little approach taken by Fianna Fáil. We needed to get the public finances in order and get people back to work. WE are delivering on that and now, with this capital investment programme we can now commit to delivering this much needed piece of infrastructure.”
Ryan “This is great news for Dublin Fingal which will also see work begin on the extension of the Dart to Balbriggan. Fingal is one of the youngest and fastest growing regions in the country and it has suffered from years of chronic under investment in capital projects. The people of Fingal understand the constraints this Government has been under but as we move towards recovery, we are ensuring the long term investment in our transport network is committed to now. A travel time of 30 minutes from Swords to the city centre at a frequency of every 2 and a half minutes is the target and with the announcement today, and the nations finances on an increasingly more solid footing, we are looking forward to achieving this over the next decade”
