RYAN CALLS ON MINISTER TO PROVIDE EXTRA GARDAI FOR RUSH GARDA STATION IS REOPENED
21 June 2017
Brendan Ryan, Labour Party TD for Dublin Fingal, has asked the Minister for Justice to provide extra Garda resources so Rush Garda Station can be reopened without it impacting on existing Garda numbers, which are already stretched.
Ryan “I have been on the Joint Policing Committee for the last few years and Senior Gardai have repeatedly said that they are stretched for numbers. The proposed reopening of Rush Garda station is a welcome announcement from the Government but it must come with increased Garda resources. From my discussions with Senior Gardai at recent public Joint Policing Committee meetings, they are off the view that Gardai are better served out on the beat and visible in our towns. The re-opening of a station such as Rush would require taking Gardai who are currently on the beat, off the streets in order to provide a presence at the station. That is why it is imperative that further Gardai are provided to North County Dublin. We need a massive increase in Garda numbers to increase visibility both on the streets and to reopen Rush Garda station. I have requested this from the Minister for Justice.”
